#choosetochallenge

‘I am grateful to be a woman. I must have done something great in another life’ Maya Angelou

I’ve scrolled through INSTA today and it’s UNBELIEVEABLY AMAZING to see women cheerleading other women. I know that when women come together and #choosetochallenge we can achieve great things. Each year, we get stronger and more respected.

HOWEVER, I’m going to throw this out there, I’m pretty shocked at the lack of men getting involved today. I’m all for #girlpower but this day is SO much more than that. Where are the men championing us?

Feminists out there will be shouting ‘we don’t need men to have our back, this is our day’but hear me out…

In our house, we’re two women raising a boy. We break all the stereotypes, daily. Again, today is about breaking stereotypes isn’t it?

We build, we dig, we cook, we clean, we wash cars, we play football, we draw, we sing, we bake, we empty the bins, we change lightbulbs, we fix bikes, we get muddy, we enjoy baths, we play computer games, we climb mountains, we play fight, we cuddle, we exercise, we’re logical, we cry, we carry heavy stuff!

He has AWESOME male role models in his life but he’s also surrounded by fierce, strong, capable and inspiring women, in abundance really. He’s growing up with a respect for women that will hopefully mean, whatever he does in his life – he’ll not be a man that thinks inequality is acceptable and he will stand on our side, with us, to challenge it.

My point being, we don’t need them to have our back, you’re right. We just need to help them grow up to change the world so that there isn’t a difference in the first place and that challenge is no longer a thing!
